AEW Spoilers: Hikaru Shida’s next opponent for the AEW Women’s Championship revealed. She is currently the longest reigning champion in the company’s history.
With the entire wrestling community still buzzing on Britt Baker and her ‘Light’s Out’ classic against Thunder Rosa, Hikaru Shida has once again become an afterthought. The AEW Women’s Champion recently faced and successfully defended her title against Ryo Mizunami at Revolution. With that out of the way, she’s now back in the all familiar territory of AEW not knowing what to do with her.

Shida was not even featured on the match card and only made an appearance as interference between Nyla Rose and Tay Conti. She landed a Kendo Stick on Rose before ‘The Bunny’ took her out from behind.

This set up a tag team match between the two. However, it seems that a title defense is just around the corner.
Hikaru Shida’s next opponent for the AEW Women’s Championship revealed
While Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the segment on Dynamite this week was leading to a tag team match between the four women. The match was eventually announced. However, Melzter continued that this would eventually lead to Conti facing Shida for a shot at the Women’s Championship.
It will be interesting to see how they get there but once they do, it should be a fun match. It remains to be seen however, if Conti ends up being the one that dethrones Shida.
Shida won the AEW Women’s Championship from Nyla Rose last year at Double or Nothing in a no disqualification and no countout match. She has since overtaken Jon Moxley as the longest reigning overall champion in AEW history, breaking his record of 277 days.
