Italian International Alessio Romagnoli is wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Manchester United are lacking quality at the back. Jose Mourinho made his intentions clear that he would be wanting a quality center-back during last summer to make a progress under him.

But, his request was rejected by the Red Devils board who only wanted a world-class defender with a view of long-term rather than a stopgap option. There are several reports quoting that Ed Woodward is keen on luring either of Kalidou Koulibaly or Milan Skriniar in the summer transfer window to strengthen the backline which has been crying out for a world class defender.

However, the Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that the Red Devils have also shown interest on AC Milan Skipper Alessio Romagnoli and are prepared to shell out 75 million euros to lure him away from San Siro.

The Italian outfit sit fourth in the Serie A table and see Romagnoli as an integral part of the squad in the forthcoming years. His partnership along with Mateo Musacchio is giving opponent strikers a lot think for as they have formed a formidable partnership at the back.

Even if a huge bid launches, AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso is determined to keep him by not naming the price tag.

The Italian International said “I won’t put a price tag on him because otherwise someone will come along and offer that amount of money. He’s not actually a good player, this way no one will bid for him.”

Following the departure of Leonardo Bonucci to Juventus last summer, Romagnoli was made as the Skipper of the Italian outfit. Besides, he put pen to paper which will keep him at San Siro until 2022.

AC Milan are forming a great team and Champions League will be pivotal to keep their stars. The likes of Alessio Romagnoli, Lucas Paqueta, Krzysztof Piatek, Suso, Tiémoué Bakayoko, and Franck Kessie have been standout players for the club in recent months.

Manchester United have been in disarray at the back. Except for Victor Lindelof, none of the players have been standout in the backline. The likes of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Eric Bailly have always been consistent and a level below Manchester United’s standards.

The Red Devils have shortlisted three Serie A defenders and will be hopeful of signing one before the summer transfer window closes down. Chelsea is the other side interested on the defender, but they have been hit with a transfer ban.

The Blues have appealed against the ban and will be focusing on completing the deals before June 30th because the transfer window will be kicking off. Maurizio Sarri is a huge fan of the defender, but approaches from Chelsea were rejected by AC Milan last summer.
