Ander Herrera: Outgoing Man Utd midfielder urges Solskjaer to follow Liverpool to become great again

Ander Herrera has urged his boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to follow Liverpool’s progress.

Manchester United slumped to Cardiff City in the final day of last season’s Premier League and finished sixth in the table. The Red Devils were flying high during his early days, but they have struggled to find their old mojo in recent months, securing just two wins in last 12 games.

It has been a series of a disappointment for the English outfit, who finished with no silverware for the second season on a trot. On the other hand, Manchester City and Liverpool produced an exhilarating title contest and Pep Guardiola’s men pipped Jurgen Klopp to lift the Premier League twice in two years.

The Citizens have a FA Cup final set up against Watford, whilst Liverpool will play Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Champions League. Liverpool have not won any trophies under their manager till date, but Klopp has converted a midtable side to serious title challengers.

Midfielder Ander Herrera, who confirmed his exit from the club has urged the current manager Solskjaer to follow the blueprint of Liverpool to establish themselves as a force in English football again. He has asked the fans to stick with the team thick and thin during the important progression.

“The club will need time, confidence and support,” Herrera said. “I am sure they will give it but the only thing I ask for them is time because this is not easy.

“There are examples. Liverpool are probably going to win the Champions League but I am leaving this club and they [Liverpool] haven’t won one title in five years I have been here.

“They have done incredible work but the fans have given them time. That’s what this club needs at the moment.”

The 29-year-old believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man to lead the club despite horrid performances off late.

He added: “I really believe in Ole and I really believe in Michael [Carrick], Kieran [McKenna], Mike Phelan and Demps [Mark Dempsey] too, but I think there is a tough job ahead.

“That is my opinion as a fan and as someone who knows the club at the moment.”

Herrera has been strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint Germain after intending to run down his contract at Old Trafford.
