Anil Kumble has been in hiding ever since he put in his resignation as the coach of the Indian cricket team, following along term rift with captain, Virat Kohli. Reports of distress within the two had surfaced during the Champions Trophy, and it was believed that the two hadn’t spoken to each other during the entire campaign.

India lost out to Pakistan in the final in surprising fashion, as they had schooled their neighbours in the league stage, thanks to a compliment team performance.

Kumble hadn’t spoken much about the feud during his resignation, putting up a very simple and elegant post on Twitter, acknowledging the difference of opinion between the coach and the captain, and stepping down for the betterment of Indian cricket.

Kumble was present at the annual Sports Writers Association of Bangalore (SWAB) awards ceremony, where he was awarded with the ‘Coach of the year’ award. He was extremely positive about India’s chances in South Africa, and commended Virat Kohli and co. on their recent performances in the international circuit.

“India can create history in South Africa and beyond. I am very confident about the team.” Kohli said.

During the ugly rift between Kohli and Kumble, there had been reports about Kumble leaking out information to the journalists, something that Kohli was extremely furious about.

“We’ve been told that there is a WhatsApp group created by Kumble of his few trusted media friends and few confidential talks between him and senior players were leaked through that” a BCCI official had told DNA.

“Sorry to all journalists for not putting you all in my WhatsApp group,” said Kumble at the award ceremony.

India will tour South Africa in January, wherein the Test series will be their first assignment, followed by a 6 match ODI series and a 3 match T20 series.
