Antoine Griezmann: Atletico Madrid demand Barcelona to pay Antoine Griezmann's old release clause

Atletico Madrid have released a new statement asking Barcelona to pay €200 million release clause.

Barcelona confirmed the arrival of Antoine Griezmann for a fee in the region of €120 million. But, Atletico Madrid believe that the contract has been unilaterally terminated at the La Liga Headquarters because of an issue.

In the statement released before, the Los RojiBlancos confirmed about that player agreed on a move back in March, days after Atletico Madrid’s Champions League elimination. They have confirmed that Barcelona have paid the fee of €120 million, which has been deemed ‘insufficient’.

Prior to Griezmann’s departure, the player had agreed a move back in March and announced his departure on May 14. This solely states that the buying club has to meet his old release clause, worth €200 million.

While confirming Griezmann’s departure, Atletico release this statement as well.

“Antoine Griezmann, represented by his lawyer, has appeared at the headquarters of the Professional Football League to unilaterally terminate the contract that binds the player with Atlético de Madrid, having deposited Fútbol Club Barcelona in the name and on behalf of the player the amount of 120 million euros.

Atlético de Madrid believes that the amount deposited is insufficient to meet its rescission clause, since it is obvious that the commitment of the player and the Football Club Barcelona was closed before the aforementioned clause was reduced from 200 to 120 million euros. euros It was also prior to the date on which the clause was modified the communication that the player made on May 14 announcing his disengagement from the club.

Atlético de Madrid believes that the termination of the contract occurred before the end of last season due to events, acts and demonstrations carried out by the player and that is why he has already started the procedures he considered appropriate for the defense of his rights and interests legitimate.”

This is likely to go down to the court. If it does, Atletico Madrid will have the backing of Real Sociedad as they would have an increased fee of €40 million from the release clause of €200 million.

Going with Atletico Madrid’s demands, Antoine Griezmann will become the costliest Barcelona player after Philippe Coutinho.
