Antoine Griezmann has hinted that his future could be away from Spain.
Antoine Griezmann confirmed his departure from Atletico Madrid following a five-year stay. The French International was supposed to join Barcelona last summer, but he turned down the move. Rather, it looks possible to play alongside Lionel Messi from the upcoming campaign.
The World Cup winner’s release clause drops to €125 million from €200 million on July 1. There is an evitable price fall, but Barcelona representatives are hesitating about the prospect of spending a huge lump of amount on a 28-year-old.
If they are to make a move for the Atletico attacker, they will have to wait until the pre-season. Recently, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo claimed that Barcelona speculations are totally absurd and remains adamant that no contact has been made for Griezmann.
Griezmann was asked about his future after France’s 4-0 win over Andorra. He iterated that he could move out of Spain, which has made the United fans go frenzy.
The 28-year-old said: “There’s a need for patience, as it’s still soon. I want my future to be decided more than anyone, but there’s a need to wait. I don’t know if I’ll remain in Spain. Maybe in two weeks we’ll know something. I just want to play football and have fun.”
Griezmann was close to joining Manchester United in 2017, before Atletico’s transfer ban was upheld, meaning they would not be able to sign a replacement. The Red Devils waited for a year to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton in a 85 million deal, transfer record for the Red Devils.
Pep Guardiola dismissed his interest on Antoine Griezmann, which paves way for Barcelona to have a clear run for his signature. Manchester United are the other club to hold interest on the forward, but the absence of Champions League football could take a toil.
Off late, Paris Saint Germain have been linked with him. His next adventure remains to be seen.
