Chelsea are preparing another bid to entice Ross Barkley to Stamford Bridge.

This is Chelsea’s second shot at gunning for the Englishman, who is rumored to have rejected a move to Stamford Bridge as he had his sights set on Tottenham, where he would avail regular football.

Spurs were unwilling to make a move at the time because the England midfielder was facing months out with a serious hamstring injury.

He has failed to make a single appearance this season for Everton. He is at least two weeks away from fitness and Mauricio Pochettino remains interested.

‘We are focused on trying to bring more English players through the academy,’ said Tottenham boss Pochettino, last week.

‘If we don’t have this profile we will try to take advantage of the English market and add more English players here.’

Chelsea are searching for ways to boost their squad in mid-season and will not concede defeat on Barkley, making contact again to find out what it might take to get him interested in a move to West London.

Antonio Conte’s tactical switch towards a five-man midfield in some of the big games would offer more opportunities for a player of Barkley’s style and ease the workload on Cesc Fabregas.

With the rumour mill going round and round with respect to Hazard’s future at Chelsea, Barkley might be an option to fall back on if something materializes.

Barkley is out of contract at the end of the season and can sign a pre-contract deal with an overseas club from the end of this month.

At 24-years of age, he has already established himself in the Premier League, and is one of the best men on the pitch on his day.

With Conte needed a boost on the pitch, the Englishman could prove to be an extremely astute signing in January.
