Arsenal's expected lineup vs Cardiff City

TheSportsRush brings Arsenal’s expected lineup vs Cardiff City, as Unai Emery’s side looks for a strong comeback after a poor start.

Arsenal got the first Premier League points under Unai Emery in their third fixture on Saturday evening. West Ham United were the victims as the north Londoners came from 0-1 down to claim a 3-1 win, courtesy of Nacho Monreal, an own goal and Danny Welbeck. The Gunners visit Premier League relegation favourites Cardiff City next Sunday and will be hoping to make it to six points.

Here’s a look at how they might line up for this match.

DEFENCE

While Bernd Leno was even tipped to start the match against West Ham, Petr Cech did so. There is no clear reason as to why Leno has not been allowed to feature for the club yet. However, he could make his bow against Cardiff. Sokratis and Mustafi have been pretty okay at the back and should improve over time, the Greek-German duo should get a start against the Bluebirds. Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal should form a fullback pairing.

MIDFIELD

Arsenal’s midfield has been a weak link this season, bar Mateo Guendouzi. The former Lorient man has started each of Arsenal’s fixtures this season and impressed irrespective of the result. Granit Xhaka looks likely to play next to him. Alex Iwobi scored against Chelsea and also got an assist against the Hammers last time out. But with Ozil coming back, the German could have the central role, with Iwobi being shifted to the wings.

ATTACK

Arsenal’s attack has been misfiring this season. Alex Iwobi’s decent performances can earn him a place in the attack. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has proven to be a fantastic option at left wing and should assume that responsibility next weekend. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, who is still yet to get off the mark for the season could play as the striker despite trouble in front of goal.
