A life spent in and around sport and the written word, Leslie Xavier, the content and quality control lead at The SportsRush, has successfully merged his passions into a 18-year career in journalism. He has been associated with three leading newspapers — The New Indian Express, The Times of India and Hindustan Times — besides long stints at Sports Illustrated and Newsclick. A globally renowned writer, he has been listed as one of the top 10 columnists in Asia and the world by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). Before journalism and a love affair with poetry, Xavier, who holds a Master’s in physics, had a three-year spell as a teacher. Prior to that, he had a successful but short career as a national wrestler, judoka and an international karate fighter. He still competes in wrestling tournaments for keeping, as he often jokes, the fighter in him ever-ready for editorial jousts.
