Barcelona trolls Manchester United after Champions League quarterfinal win

Barcelona mocked Manchester United on Twitter after defeating the side in the quarterfinal of the Champions League.

Lionel Messi scored twice, while Phil Coutinho put the tie to bed with a brilliant strike from outside the box, as Barcelona ended Manchester United’s run in the Champions League.

Luke Shaw’s own goal was the sole difference in an underwhelming first leg, where Barcelona hardly looked threatening throughout the game.

In the second leg, Manchester United started brightly, but failed to convert their chances. Lionel Messi punished them as he scored a brace the first 20 minutes, as Barcelona ran riot in the United defence.

The Catalan giants took to social media to celebrate the victory with their fans, and also trolled Manchester United.

Barcelona mock Manchester United:

Borrowing the lyrics from Manchester United’s famous “Ole’s at the wheel” chant, Barcelona wrote, “Messi at the wheel.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a brilliant start to his career as the manager of the club, as he led the sides to victories against Arsenal and Chelsea in the FA Cup, and a shock turnaround against PSG in the round-of-16 of the Champions League.

However, since the dramatic night in Paris, fortunes changed for Manchester United and Solskjaer as the club went downhill ever since. The side lost five of their last seven games since the win against PSG.

Manchester United faces a difficult task in their pursuit for a top-4 position in the Premier League. The side has games remaining against Manchester City and Chelsea in the league, which could prove tough for Solskjaer.

Here’s the tweet from Barcelona:

United currently stands at the sixth place in the league.

The manager has promised a “couple of signings” in the summer transfer window as Manchester United aims for a squad overhaul after a second consecutive trophyless season.

What next?

The side returns to action on Sunday night as they take on Everton in the league.
