Jurgen Klopp Launches Defence Of Roberto Firmino Amidst Goal Drought: The Liverpool striker has endured a horrendous season for the club with the goals failing to flow for the Brazilian

Ever since Roberto Firmino has joined Liverpool, the striker hasn’t been regarded as one of the more flamboyant goal scorers.

The Brazilian’s ability to act the as the decisive link between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah saw him emerge as a mainstay of Jurgen Klopp’s gameplan. However, despite his frugal nature as a goal scorer, Firmino was always someone envisioned as being capable of rising to the occasion when needed.

However, the ongoing season has seen Firmino endure a horrendous run of form. The Liverpool striker has scored on a scanty 6 occasions in all competitions while creating an equally sorry five goals.

Klopp Bats For Firmino

Despite his torrid form, Firmino has managed to retain his place in Klopp’s setup. And the German manager has now gone onto launch an impassioned defence of his striker, justifying Firmino’s slump in form.

“It is a mixture of the season, 100 per cent, but as well, when the boys up front don’t score as often as we’re used to then that doesn’t help,” Klopp said ahead of Liverpool’s showdown with Southampton on Saturday.

“But anyway, we are not in dreamland, so you can go through these periods. But, of course, it is temporary and not forever. There is no doubt about that.

“Bobby is not old or tired or lost everything, not at all. We see everything in training, but we need to make sure we bring that more often on the pitch.

“That is not only for Bobby either, but you asked about him. That is a general thing for us.”

Liverpool who are currently in 7th place in the Premier League are looking to bridge the gap between themselves and the top 4. However, with two draws on the spin, the club finds the deficit between itself and Chelsea ever widening.
