Now, no matter what game you’re playing for the first time, things can get pretty confusing. So, you’re not alone in this! However, don’t worry, more often than not, with a simple guide, everything starts to make sense easily. Well at least as long as you’re not playing that old Minesweeper game on Windows, that is.

Before we get into the actual gameplay, here’s a guide to the different elements in the game. Also, if you’ve played Clash of Clans and Clash Royale before, you should have a fair idea about these already.
There are 3 types of items in the game – gems, star points and coins, in descending order of rarity. Gems are green, star points, pink and coins, deep yellow. You’ll find them in the top-right of your home screen, in a row. Of these, free gems are very rare and used to get extra benefits such as more gold or items from the shop. Star points are also used in the shop. However, they are mostly used to buy new skins for your brawlers. Coins are the most common items of all. You will use them to upgrade your Brawlers – a very important task that we’ll talk more about later on.
Apart from this, you have trophies that you get for winning a match. These are shown on the top left of the home screen. The rest of it you’ll figure out as you play along.
What are Brawlers? How to handle them?
To put it in simple terms, Brawlers are your heroes in the game. Each of them have unique abilities and special abilities. The first thing you should do is figure out what your brawler does and how he/she does it. You will want to understand your brawler’s strengths and weaknesses asap. Some brawlers are heavy hitters with bull-like strength. They rush head-on. El Primo, Bull and Frank are 3 examples. Others can be nimble but sharp. They are weak up close but perform very well from a distance. Colt, Barley and Brock are 3 that fall into this group. Similarly, there are many other types of brawlers too, each one unique and fun in its own way. The more brawler knowledge you have, the better you’ll know your enemy’s brawlers too. So, more brawler experience leads to a better player!
Now, you will unlock new brawlers as rewards in the game. You can also buy them from the shop using the gems we talked of above. Each of these brawlers have different levels. The more you use them, the stronger they get. Also, the more trophies you win, the more brawlers you get! This is how you progress through a game. So, pick the brawlers you use, wisely!
How to play Brawl Stars? The gameplay guide.
Gameplay in Brawl Stars can be divided into 3 parts – Movement, Positioning and Decision making.
Good, sharp movement is the key to success in-game. Right from the beginning, you should practice moving in a zig-zag pattern. Beginners often have a habit of running in straight lines. This makes them easy to predict and target. Instead, the more you change directions, the more confusing it’ll be for your enemy. So, get into the habit of shooting while constantly on the move. Don’t be a sitting duck!
Next comes positioning. You must’ve already noticed that there are walls & bushes in all maps in the game. You can take cover behind walls and hide in bushes. Use these to your full advantage. When taking enemy fire, run into a bush, change direction and come out the other way. Your enemy will lose track of you and be confused. Use the walls to obstruct enemy’s bullet paths. For eg., if you are a weak unit like Barley, hide behind them and drop your acid bottles. But be careful, your enemies may be thinking along the same lines.
Finally, we come to decision making. Decision making is all about knowing when to attack and when to retreat. You’ll want to keep track of your health and attack bars for this. Always remember to attack only when you have a decent chunk of health and ammo left with you. Retreat behind walls and covers when you are low on both. The trick to being a successful player is waiting for your opportunity. Be patient. Catch your enemies at their weakest!
