$8.5 million net worth Glenn McGrath was once fined £900 for spitting in front of Adrian Griffith

Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has to be one of the most decorated players to ever play the game for Australia. McGrath is a soft-spoken individual, but as a pacer, he was very aggressive on the field, and he had some controversial incidents on the field as well.

The 52-year-old pacer made his international debut in 1993 against New Zealand in a test match. It is safe to say that McGrath was influential with both red and white balls. The T20 format came late into his career, but he still managed to do well in that format as well.

McGrath is the 6th highest wicket-taker in test cricket’s history with 563 wickets, whereas he also has 381 ODI wickets under his belt. In IPL he played for Delhi Capitals and represented New South Wales in Australia’s domestic circuit.

During the 4th test of 1999 Australia’s tour of West Indies, Glenn McGrath was reprimanded for his actions. McGrath was fined £900 for spitting in front of opener Adrian Griffith. However, it was later seen that both players shook hands after the day’s play showing respect for each other.

However, the match referee Raman Subba Row was critical of the case, and he decided to punish McGrath. He also warned him about future conduct as well.

“At the close of play yesterday Glenn McGrath spat on the wicket in the vicinity of West Indian batsman Adrian Griffith. After inspection of various slow-motion TV replays, the ICC match referee charged the bowler with bringing the game into disrepute,” Raman Subba Row’s statement read.

McGrath was at his very best in the series, and he was the highest wicket-taker with 30 wickets in 4 matches. This tour was also famous for Steve Waugh dropping Shane Warne in the last test match of the series.
