Team India failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2022, and it was a very big disappointment as they were the favourites to win the tournament. The 10-wicket defeat against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup was also a very big dent in India’s 2022 journey.
With ICC World Cup in 2023, it was certain that some steps will be taken and a new selection committee is certainly a big step in the direction. It will be interesting to see how the new selection committee will work as there were quite a few shocking selections last year.

In November, BCCI issued a statement where they asked for nominations for the 5 selectors post, and mandatory criteria was set for the same. Over 600 applications came for the same, and the COC then shortlisted 11 candidates for personal interviews. Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape were part of the COC.
After the interviews, Chetan Sharma has been retained as the head of the selection committee. Although, the rest of the four members are changed in the committee. Subroto Banerjee (East Zone), SS Das (Central Zone), S Sharath (South Zone) and Salil Ankola (West Zone) are the new selectors in the panel.
Earlier, the West Zone selector’s post was empty after Mr. Abey Kuruvilla completed his tenure, whereas Mr. Debasish Mohanty’s (East Zone) tenure was also about to end soon. Harvinder Singh (North Zone) and Sunil Joshi (Central Zone) were the other selectors. Both Harvinder and Sunil were named the selectors in 2020 along with Chetan Sharma.
