Commentators in LPL 2020: Who has replaced Herschelle Gibbs in Lanka Premier League commentary team?

Commentators in LPL 2020: The inaugural season of the Lanka Premier League will comprise of a six-member commentary team.

Coming on the back of multiple delays due to several reasons, the inaugural season of the Lanka Premier League will commence from today with Colombo Kings and Kandy Tuskers locking horns against each other in Hambantota.

In what should come as a boon for the Sri Lankan players, this is Sri Lanka Cricket’s first T20 competition since 2012. In times when all countries conduct their own T20 competition, LPL 2020 should aid in unearthing domestic talent.

With a couple of ICC T20 World Cups to be played in the next two years, the same has it in it to aid the national team which is currently at the seventh position on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Rankings for teams.

The five-team tournament will witness all teams playing against each other twice before the quintessential semi-finals and final match which will be played on December 16.

Apart from a plethora of domestic Sri Lankan players, the likes of Dale Steyn, Mohammed Amir, Shahid Afridi, four former Indian fast bowlers and many other overseas players will take part in Lanka Premier League 2020.

Commentators in LPL 2020

SLC have announced a six-member commentary panel for the first season of Lanka Premier League. Former Sri Lanka batsman Russel Arnold, former Pakistan batsman Aamir Sohail, former West Indies batsman Daren Ganga, renowned commentators such as Roshan Abeysinghe and Mike Haysman and illustrious coach Mickey Arthur will be seen calling LPL 2020 matches.

It is worth mentioning that former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs had traveled to Sri Lanka as a commentator but was subsequently signed by Colombo Kings as their head coach after former England pacer Kabir Ali (original selection for the position) tested positive for COVID-19.

It was then that Arthur was added to the commentary panel as Gibbs’ replacement.
