The Indian cricket team will return to action in a competitive match for the first time since the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton last month.
With the Indian cricketers regrouping in Durham after their scheduled break, they will play an official warm-up match against County Championship XI at the Riverside Ground from tomorrow.
Led by Warwickshire captain Will Rhodes, a 14-member County XI squad also comprises of James Bracey and Haseeb Hameed – both of whom could find a place in England’s Test squad for India series.
Talking about the visitors, Lokesh Rahul appears set to keep wickets in the warm-up match in the wicket-keepers Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha’s absence. Pant, who is recovering from COVID-19, will have to return a couple of negative tests before joining the squad in Durham. Saha, on the other hand, was a potential close contact to support staff member Dayanand Garani.

There hasn’t been any official statement on both the players’ availability for this match. However, considering that the first Test is still a couple of weeks away, there are minimal chances of them missing the same.
