Dale Steyn, whose net worth is $15 million, was once fined 100% of his match fees for spitting in front of Sulieman Benn

South African pacer Dale Steyn was one of the greatest test bowlers to ever play the game. If not for his injuries, Steyn could have played a lot more cricket. Known for his aggressive nature, he sometimes went out of his limits and was reprimanded for the same as well.

Steyn is the fastest pacer alongside Sir Richard Hadlee to breach the mark of 400 test wickets, and he was named in the ICC test team of the year for a record 8 times (the highest for any player). He had an economy of 6.94 in T20Is, which is a great record to have.

Steyn’s numbers in international cricket were incredible, where he scalped 439 test wickets at 22.95, whereas he also had 196 ODI and 64 T20I wickets under his belt. Apart from international cricket, he represented a lot of teams around the globe in domestic cricket.

Dale Steyn was once fined 100% of his match fees

Dale Steyn was famous for his aggressive nature, and he was once fined 100% of his match fees in 2010 against West Indies. This incident happened in 2010 during South Africa’s tour of the West Indies. The 3rd test of the series was played in Barbados, and during South Africa’s 1st innings Dale Steyn was being provoked by Sulieman Benn in between.

Kemar Roach bowled Steyn for his individual score of 4 runs, and while returning to the pavilion, Steyn was seen spitting in the direction of Sulieman Benn. It was a level 2 breach which has a minimum punishment of 50% match fees and a maximum of full match fees.

Steve Davis and Simon Taufel were the on-field umpires, and they reported the issue to the match referee. Jeff Crowe confirmed the punishment of the South African pacer.

“Dale’s behaviour was entirely unacceptable and he knows that. The fact that he was provoked by Sulieman during his time at the crease helps to explain his actions but cannot excuse them,” an ICC release quoted Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, as saying.
