Devon Conway IPL team: Conway emulates Rishabh Pant to play reverse scoop for boundary in Hamilton T20I

Devon Conway emulates Rishabh Pant: The top-order batsman from New Zealand continued to make the most of his run spree this summer.

During the first T20I of the ongoing Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand in Hamilton, New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Devon Conway’s fourth T20I half-century powered his team to 210/3 in 20 overs after captain Tim Southee won the toss and chose to bat.

Conway, who kick-started his innings by impressing non-striker Martin Guptill in the fourth over, took the onus upon himself hitting boundaries frequently after the senior opening batsman’s dismissal.

In what has been a breakout summer season for the left-handed batsman, Conway reached yet another international half-century although after a debatable umpiring decision in the 15th over.

Continuing to hit boundaries in the business end of the innings, Conway hit another two fours in the last over to score 92* (52) with the help of 11 fours and three sixes.

It was on the fourth delivery of the last over when Conway played a reverse scoop off Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman for a boundary through the third-man region. In the process, the 29-year old player emulated his Indian counterpart in Rishabh Pant, who had hit similar shot off Jofra Archer and James Anderson in the recent past.

Considering Conway continues to play in a similar fashion in the shortest format at the highest level, he is highly likely to find a spot in one of the Indian Premier League teams. The point was funnily raised by India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin when Conway had scored 99* against Australia four days after the IPL 2021 auction last month.
