Ishan Kishan century: Mumbai Indians, Wasim Jaffer and Suresh Raina celebrate Ishan Kishan ODI century vs Bangladesh

During the third ODI of India’s tour of Bangladesh 2022 in Chittagong, India opening batter Ishan Kishan has played a rejuvenating innings for his team in an otherwise dismal tour thus far.

Playing his first match of the tour, Kishan scored a maiden international century in his 31st match across formats. Appearing to be batting on a completely different pitch than opening partner Shikhar Dhawan (3) and former captain Virat Kohli from the word go, Kishan dominated the Bangladeshi bowlers to hit boundaries aerially and along the ground to all parts of the ground.

Backing his attacking instincts, Kishan didn’t let India suffer due to Dhawan’s failure and Kohli’s comparatively jittery start. Kishan, who hit five fours in the first powerplay, hit a couple of fours and a six in Ebadot Hossain’s third over to up the ante after the initial 10-over mark. It was in the following over that Kishan ran a single off former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan to register a 49-ball half-century.

Boundaries in the next four consecutive overs witnessed Kishan racing his way to a three-figure mark. It was on the first delivery of the 24th over when Kishan hit a boundary off Afif Hossain to bring up a 85-ball century. Having missed out on a milestone in his penultimate ODI before this match, the left-handed batter didn’t err on this particular occasion.

Kishan, 24, hasn’t shown any intention of slowing down after a personal milestone. Looking to convert a special knock into a memorable one, Kishan has already hit as many as five sixes since completing a century. With half the Indian innings still remaining, Kishan has a golden opportunity to enter the record books via this innings.
