During the third day of the first Test of the ongoing India’s tour of England in Nottingham, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored his 16th Test half-century at a much-needed time for his team.
Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 51st over, Jadeja shared a 60-run partnership with opening batsman Lokesh Rahul (84) to go past England’s first-innings score of 183.
Known to get along with the game irrespective of the situation, a street-smart Jadeja ensured that runs don’t dry up for India despite them losing half their side before his arrival.
After veteran England pacer James Anderson dismissed Rahul and Shardul Thakur (0) in successive overs, Jadeja took the onus upon himself as he started to play the big shots.
On the first delivery of the 75th over, Jadeja cut England fast bowler Ollie Robinson to register his seventh overseas Test half-century. What followed was Jadeja’s signature sword celebration as India captain Virat Kohli was seen appreciating the southpaw from the dressing room.
Jadeja, who hit another boundary in the same over, got out in his attempt of hitting a big shot too many. Having scored 56 (86) with the help of eight fours and a six, Jadeja’s valiant contribution has handed his team with a significant advantage.

Was in 2012 after Nagpur Test vs England… MS Dhoni has said in PC that we will some day see the true value of Jadeja in Test cricket.
It’s taken a while, but we are here. The second half of Jadeja’s career would be that of a proper Test all-rounder in all conditions. #EngvInd

Jadeja’s consistency as a batter across all formats since 2019 WC has been amazing. Hardly gets out early and looks so assured. No real weakness. India’s MVP

Has @imjadeja been India’s Test MVP over the last couple of years? Can’t think of a game where he hasn’t contributed with bat/ball or both! Has given India a clear advantage going into the second innings. 👍 #ENGvsIND
