Krunal Pandya news: What happened to Krunal Pandya? When will SL vs IND 2nd T20I be played?

SL vs IND 2nd T20I: The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India at the R Premdasa Stadium is all in likeliness of getting postponed.

India all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been tested positive for COVID-19 in Colombo. The senior of the two Pandya brothers, Krunal was a close contact of eight other members of the Indian team – all of whom have been isolated immediately for now.

The development was made public on social media platform Twitter. While the initial update was around an Indian player testing positive, Krunal’s name subsequently started to do the rounds in the Indian media.

It remains unclear as to how Pandya contacted the virus whilst staying inside a bio-secure bubble.

“Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive,” BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) said in a statement.

After scoring an impact-generating 35 (54) under pressure in the second ODI, Krunal Pandya was rested for the third ODI. In the most recently concluded first T20I, the southpaw had scored 3* (3) and picked bowling figures of 2-0-16-1.

When will SL vs IND 2nd T20I be played?

To conduct proper tests and ensure the well-being of all the stakeholders, a decision has been made to postpone the second T20I which was scheduled to be played today.

BCCI’s statement further confirmed that the second T20I will now be played on July 28 (Wednesday). The third T20I will continued to be played on its original date of July 29 (Thursday) as Sri Lanka and India will play two back-to-back matches.

Readers must note that this is the second time when the ongoing India’s tour of Sri Lanka has faced a postponement. The fixtures were rejigged before the start of the first ODI as a non-playing member of the Sri Lankan team had tested positive for COVID-19.

Australia’s tour of West Indies 2021, which culminated as recent as yesterday, also faced its share of the virus as the second and third ODIs had to be postponed after a non-playing member of the home team tested positive. As a consequence of the same, a five-match T20I series between West Indies and Pakistan has been converted into a four-match series citing tight scheduling.
