During the 16th match of the ongoing 13th season of the Indian Premier League between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah, Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs in a nerve-wrenching high-scoring thriller.
It was Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik who had won the toss and chose to field. On the back of captain Shreyas Iyer scoring a phenomenal 88 (38) with the help of seven fours and six sixes, Capitals scored a mammoth 228/4 in 20 overs.
Chasing a 229-run target, KKR were trailing for most part of their chase. Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the second over, it was Nitish Rana whose 58 (35) including four fours and sixes each gave some momentum to KKR’s innings.
However, all-rounder Andre Russell (13), Rana and Karthik (6) getting out in quick succession spoke of the otherwise. A freak 30-ball 78-run partnership between Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi gave hints of Kolkata staging a marvelous comeback until Delhi pacer Anrich Nortje dismissed Morgan in the penultimate over.
While Morgan departed after scoring 44 (18) with the help of one four and five sixes, Tripathi impressed one and all with his 36 (16) inclusive of three fours and three sixes each.
With bowling figures of 4-0-33-3, Nortje was the pick of the bowlers for Capitals. Harshal Patel, who replaced Ishant Sharma tonight, did exceedingly well to register figures of 4-0-34-2.
