Mumbai squad 2021 vs Oman: Mumbai tour of Oman schedule and fixtures

Mumbai squad 2021 vs Oman: The selection committee of Mumbai have announced a 14-member squad for a white-ball tour of Oman.

It was just over a week ago that Oman Cricket had proposed to host Mumbai for a few T20 matches ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 which Oman will be co-hosting alongside UAE.

In the absence of competitive cricket since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, Oman Cricket had sought permission from the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) with respect to sending Mumbai’s team for a white-ball tour.

A positive response from the MCA has resulted in Mumbai scheduled to play three T20s and as many 50-over matches in Muscat in what will be a rare series for an Indian domestic team.

Readers must note that Mumbai will be traveling to Oman on August 19 under their new head coach and former Mumbai stalwart Amol Muzumdar. After quarantining for just a day due to special permission received by Oman government, Mumbai will play the first of their six white-ball matches on August 22.

August 22 – Oman vs Mumbai, 1st T20

August 24 – Oman vs Mumbai, 2nd T20

August 26 – Oman vs Mumbai, 3rd T20

August 29 – Oman vs Mumbai, 1st 50-over match

August 31 – Oman vs Mumbai, 2nd 50-over match

September 2 – Oman vs Mumbai, 3rd 50-over match

Led by former India fast bowler Salil Ankola, Mumbai’s selection committee has named a 14-member squad for the tour of Oman. Spinner Shams Mulani, who has played 65 matches for Mumbai across formats, has been named as the captain for the tour.

With a lot of senior players on national or Indian Premier League duty, Mumbai won’t be sending their first-choice squad. Having said that, Rajasthan Royals pair of Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be two active IPL players who will be boarding the flight to Oman. Dube, who has represented India in 14 limited-overs matches across formats, is the only international player in Mumbai’s squad.

“The Mumbai Cricket Association urged RR [Rajasthan Royals] to release these players [Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal] from their camp for this tour, and the franchise agreed in the interest of cricket. They will join RR in UAE after this tour,” Ankola was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Mumbai squad for Oman tour – Shams Mulani (c), Aakarshit Gomel, Hardik Tamore, Arman Jaffer, Chinmay Sutar, Shivam Dube, Aman Khan, Sujit Naik, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shashank Attarde, Mohit Awasthi, Sairaj Patil, Deepak Shetty and Dhurmil Matkar.

It goes without saying that the tour will be an ideal scenario for Mumbai’s players ahead of the all-important Indian domestic season. Having played minimal cricket due to the monsoon season in Mumbai, the aforementioned players would be keen to return to rhythm against Oman.
