England wicket-keeper batter Phil Salt has given a much-needed boost to Delhi Capitals, who were looking for a gloveman after regular captain Rishabh Pant’s car crash. Apart from England, Salt even had an opportunity to represent West Indies in international cricket.

Salt was born in 1996 in Bodelwyddan, Wales. He attended his school in Chester and started his cricketing journey at a very early age. Initially, he wanted to be a footballer and is a huge fan of Manchester City Football Club. He soon was a part of the North East Wales Under-11 cricket Team.
When Salt was 9-year old, his family moved to Barbados. He lived there for six years and also fulfilled the residency requirement. At 15, Salt got a cricketing scholarship with Surrey and he moved to England to continue his journey. The explosive batter was in the stands when England won ICC World Twenty20 2010 in the Caribbean.
Salt once revealed that he met Sir Garry Sobers in a restaurant in Barbados. He was so star-struck that he took Sobers’ parcel home instead of his own. Salt agrees that his cricketing journey flourished on the Island nation.

Phil Salt IPL journey
This is Salt’s first stint in the Indian Premier League. The Capitals bought him for his base price of INR 2 crore in the auction. Earlier, he played for Pretoria Captials in SA20 2023, which is owned by the same owners.
Salt has now become a regular in the English T20 setup as well after batter Jason Roy’s omission. He is a destructive opener who likes hitting from the very first ball. Former England all-rounder Luke Wright played a lot with Salt in Sussex and he once described how dangerous Salt can be.
“He’s so dangerous and scary for the opposition. He tries to hit the first ball for four pretty much every time, and often does. With Salty, you know if he’s hanging around, he’s not going to be chewing up many balls,” Luke Wright once said.
Salt has played in various T20 Leagues around the word. He has represented Barbados Tridents (Caribbean Premier League), Adelaide Strikers (Big Bash League), Manchester Originals (The Hundred), Lahore Qalandars (Pakistan Super League), etc in his career.
