Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz is taking some giant steps in the cricketing circuit. Amidst all the spin-bowling talent coming from the country. Gurbaz is making his stature as one of the most destructive T20 batters around. However, the journey has not been smooth for the Afghan wicketkeeper.

Gurbaz was born in Gurbuz district in Khost Province in Afghanistan. He used to play Football during his school days but his mind changed because of Afghanistani cricketers Nawroz Mangal and Noor Ali Zadran. Mangal and Zadran belonged to the same district as Gurbaz and they received a grand welcome they came to their hometown. Gurbaz decided to pursue the sport after that incident.

After completing his 12th standard at Sheikh Amir High School, Gurbaz decided to drop his graduation plans in order to focus on cricket. Gurbaz even worked at construction sites to collect money for his cricket coaching. He made his Afghanistan debut in 2019 in a T20I match against Zimbabwe at the age of 18.

Gurbaz comes from a very humble family which has absolutely no sports background. Gurbaz’s father is a retired school principal, whereas his mother is a homemaker. The names of his parents are not available in the public forum. He has one sibling named Afsar Ali Saadat.

Qadir Gurbaz is one of Rahmanullah’s close friends and he was the one who used to pick and drop Rahmanullah during his initial days. Rahmanullah once said that Qadir used to motivate him a lot during his struggling days.

Gurbaz is not married yet and there are no reports about him being in a relationship with anyone. He can be considered single on the basis of information available.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz created record on ODI debut

Gurbaz made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2021 in Abu Dhabi. He played a brilliant knock of 127 (127) with the help of eight fours and nine sixes. He became the first-ever Afghan player to score a century on ODI debut.

Currently playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League, the keeper has played in various T20 leagues around the world. He is just 21 years old and has made his presence in Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, Abu Dhabi T10 League, etc.
