Sawai Mansingh Stadium Pitch Report for RR vs GT IPL 2023 Match in Jaipur

The 48th match of the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League will take place between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans tomorrow, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Both Rajasthan and Gujarat have enjoyed a decent run in the season so far, and have been amongst the top-4 teams in the points table for some days. They, however, lost their previous matches against Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals respectively.

RR were yet again impressive with the bat against MI, and posted another score in excess of the 200-run mark on the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden IPL century. They were, however, let down by the bowlers as MI’s strong batting line-up registered the highest-ever successful run-chase in IPL at the Wankhede Stadium.

GT, on the other hand, suffered a rare loss in their IPL journey so far while chasing a total during their last match against DC. Their skipper Hardik Pandya took responsibility for the loss, as he chew up way too many deliveries during the low-scoring contest, and failed to take his team over the line.

The pitches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium have not really been a batting paradise for the batters. The ripe time to bat on this surface would be with the new ball, when the deliveries will likely arrive nicely on to the bat.

“It (target) was quite a bit above par. The reason was the first six overs, gave too many runs, but at the same time the pitch was best to bat on at that time,” remarked MS Dhoni after Chennai Super Kings failed to chase down the target of 203 during the last match at this venue.

During the two IPL 2023 matches at this venue, one turned out to be a high-scoring affair, while the other had the bowlers dominate the proceedings.

The average first innings score here since IPL 2018 has been 164 runs, with spinners having the upper hand overall with respect to the economy rate.

All in all, expect a neck-to-neck battle between bat and the ball come tomorrow, with the in-form sides likely to engage in a lip-smacking contest.
