Suresh Raina posts emotive throwback video after international retirement

Suresh Raina posts emotive throwback video: The former Indian batsman had announced his international retirement yesterday.

Former India batsman Suresh Raina took to his Twitter platform less than an hour ago to post an emotive throwback video after hanging his boots from international cricket.

The video witnesses many vital moments from Raina’s 13-year old international career. From making his international debut against Sri Lanka in 2005 to involvement in title-winning campaigns in 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy to getting injured, Raina’s fans can reminisce his career in the video with the song ‘Zindagi Kuch To Bata’ from Kabir Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015) playing in the background.

Raina had last played for India during the tour of England in 2018. The 33-year old batsman’s last competitive match had come during the previous season of the Indian Premier League more than a year ago.

A supremely underrated asset in the Indian middle-order in limited-overs cricket, Raina was also a live wire on the field. A handy customer with the ball in hand, Raina has often bailed out India with much-needed breakthroughs in the middle overs.

It is difficult to imagine anyone else with 300+ international outings timing his retirement like Raina did. Having played second fiddle in numerous Indian wins, Raina treated his retirement no differently as it came minutes after the retirement of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Raina, who has been involved in multiple vital partnerships with Dhoni for India and Chennai Super Kings over the years, played 276 (out of 322) matches across formats alongside Dhoni and 228 under him.
