"They would run through a brick wall for him": Nasser Hussain heaps praise on Ben Stokes-led England Test side after they register a memorable win vs Pakistan in Rawalpindi

A bold declaration at Tea on ‘Day 4’, followed by a spirited bowling performance on ‘Day 5’ on a docile Rawalpindi pitch, has helped team England register only their third Test victory against Pakistan in Pakistan, just minutes away from the end of day’s play.

Requiring another 5 wickets in the final session with bad light most likely to have forced the stop of play yet again, and the hosts requiring another 86 runs to register a famous victory for themselves as well, the sheer will and desire from the Ben Stokes-led side to have a result come what may ultimately triumphed in their favour.

From loo break, to change of gloves, and even a block fest by the last Pakistani pair – Naseem Shah (6 off 46) and Mohammad Ali (0* off 26) for around thirty minutes could not prevent them from losing the contest, as they bowed down by 74 runs, to go 0-1 down in the three-match series, and make it even more challenging for themselves to make to through to the World Test Championship (WTC) final next year.

The duo of James Anderson (24-12-36-4) and Ollie Robinson (22-6-50-4) were the stars of the final session in particular, as they troubled the Pakistani batters by making use of the reverse swing with great effect.

Nasser Hussain heaps praise on Ben Stokes-led England Test side

Post one of England’s memorable away Test victories in history, former England skipper Nasser Hussain commended the entire England team for believing and giving it their all to execute the plans put forward by their skipper Ben Stokes to go for a win at all costs.

“The way he (Stokes) sends his batters out the door to go out and have fun and score 6.7 runs an Over to get you ahead of the game, to buy you time towards the end of the game…he pretty much got every decision right. And his cricketers and team back him up. They would run through a brick wall for him…,” exclaimed Hussain during an interaction with fellow commentator/analyst Michael Atherton for Sky Sports.
