Why is Mark Wood Not Playing Today’s IPL 2023 Match between LSG and SRH?
During the tenth match of the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, SRH skipper Aiden Markram has won the Toss and elected to bat first.
“We will look to bat first. The wicket looks quite dry. Hopefully, we can put up a good total. Everyone seems in good spirits and full of energy,” remarked Markram post winning the Toss.
SRH have made a couple of changes to their playing XI from the previous match. While Markram joins the team as the designated skipper in place of Glenn Phillips, Anmolpreet Singh makes way for Southpaw batter Abhishek Sharma.
The think-tank has opted for the inclusion of only three overseas players in the line-up in Markram, Adil Rashid, and Harry Brook tonight.
Fazalhaq Farooqi, Heinrich Klassen, and Marco Jansen have been named in the five substitute players list. Thus, one can expect one of the three to act as their impact player at some stage in the game.
Why is Mark Wood Not Playing Today’s IPL 2023 Match
LSG, on the other hand, have made a couple of changes to their playing XI as well. Both their frontline pacers during their previous two matches in Avesh Khan and Mark Wood have to unfortunately be part of the dug out tonight.
While Avesh injured himself during the last match versus CSK, Wood is down with flu.
“We will assess the conditions and try to do our best. Wood is down with flu, so he misses out. Avesh injured himself in the last game, so he is taking a break,” remarked LSG skipper KL Rahul post the Toss.
Interestingly, while Avesh is said to be injured, he is one of their five substitute players for tonight, with Ayush Badoni, Swapnil Singh, Daneil Sams and Prerak Mankad being the other four.
Key players missing out/included in tonight’s fixture
Apart from Wood and Avesh, uncapped Indian allrounder Krishnappa Gowtham also misses out on a berth in the playing XI tonight for LSG.
While West Indies allrounder Romario Shephard and left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat replace the two pacers in the line-up, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has been included in place of Gowtham.
With Kyle Mayers’ impressive returns in both the previous matches, Proteas wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock has to warm the bench despite being available to play tonight.
As for SRH, left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi has been relegated to the substitutes after featuring in the playing XI during the first match versus Rajasthan, while Abdul Samad is part of the playing XI, after playing the previous match as their impact player.
