World Test Championship scenarios: Can England qualify for WTC final?

A lot of test cricket is being played around the world at the moment, but the way England has played this format of the game has impressed every cricket fan around the globe. After their series win in Pakistan, they have moved upwards in the World Test Championship table.

England completed a solid whitewash against Pakistan by beating them in the Karachi test. This was England’s last series in the World Test Championship final cycle, and they have still lost just a single game in the regime of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

This defeat at home against England has certainly dented the chance of Pakistan as well, who were once in contention to reach the final.

World Test Championship scenarios

England have been sensational in the test format since the appointment of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes. They are on a winning streak, but they are officially out of the race of reaching the final of the World Test Championship 2023. England have played their quota of series in the test cycle.

The English side finished their tally with 46.97% points, and they are currently 5th on the table. Regardless of the other team’s results, it is impossible for the side to sneak into the top 2 positions in the table. The poor Ashes and then disappointment in West Indies proved to be vital for the English side.

Australia are currently the favourites to reach the final of the World Test Championship as they are at the 1st position with 76.92% points. It will require a major surprise to displace Australia out of the top 2 spots. India (55.77%) and South Africa (54.55%) will battle to join the Australian team in the final.

Sri Lanka (53.33%) also has an outside chance, with England, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies and Bangladesh already out of the race for the final.
