With Real Madrid already in turmoil sitting 4th in La Liga, 19 points behind run-away leaders Barcelona, things are not working out on-the-field as well as off-the-field for the defending champions.

After recent reports emerging that Zidane might be lured to former side Juventus, it is also being rumoured that their talismanic superstar too wants a move back to his former club. Cristiano Ronaldo feels cheated by Real Madrid, after being falsely promised a new contract and pay raise.

With Neymar’s world record transfer and Messi’s new contract extension that see them earn hefty wages, Cristiano won’t want to see himself earning any less if not more than the two superstars of world football.

His struggling form in front of goal and increasing age seems to be a concern for Madrid now. And Spanish newspaper AS claim Ronaldo, 32, has told his pals about his wish to return to Old Trafford.

Reports say that club president Florentino Perez had assured the Portuguese captain a new lucrative deal following his match-winning brace against Juventus that gave Real their record 12th Champions League title.

However, their failed coup to sign Kylian Mbappe in the summer and reports of another mega-transfer of Neymar to Madrid have not gone well with Cristiano, as he feels his contract has been forgotten now.

Cristiano Ronaldo had spent six seasons at the Old Trafford winning his first Ballon D’or with United in 2008 before making a then world record transfer of £80million to the Galacticos.

His still holds love for the club, as he is never shy of praising his old club and team mates.

Ronaldo famously returned and scored the winner at Old Trafford in a champions league match four years ago. The Portuguese often speaks about that night, as he could not believe that warm reaction that he got from the Manchester United faithful.

United fans still sing his name during their home matches, and treat Ronaldo like one of their own, something that is not lost for Ronaldo. While Ronaldo is still a terrific finisher, he is no longer the rampaging winger during his Old Trafford days.

It will be interesting to see if United actually do go for Ronaldo, as any move for their former hero will seriously impact the current group of players at the club right now.

United are reportedly close to signing Alexis Sanchez in the next few days, and have apparently promised him the number seven shirt. Ronaldo will certainly demand his old number back if he does return, which makes it very interesting!
