It’s down to number 2 vs number 3 to decide who will take on MI in that final in Hyderabad on the 12th of May. Both DC and CSK have played some brilliant cricket through the league phase and would be wanting to cap it off with at least an IPL final appearance.

On current form though, DC have the edge, as they have been winning league games coming into the playoffs and also won that nail biter against SRH at Vizag a couple of days back.

CSK on the other hand have been losing games recently, the most recent being that home defeat to MI in IPL Qualifier 1. MS Dhoni will need to get back to the drawing board and figure things out as soon as they can, as having already played on that Vizag surface, DC could have an advantage going into Friday’s qualifier.

Despite the win, DC need to find a way to sneak Lamichanne into that side. The Nepal leg spinner hasn’t been a regular this season, but could come in very handy on that slow, sluggish Vizag track.

It is the master vs the apprentice, and I am going with the apprentice for this game, largely on current form and the fact that Pant managed to get the man of the match in the win against SRH. The Delhi youngster maturely handled the chase, playing Rashid out and attacking the balls that he felt he could take on. Thampi and Bhuvi were taken to the cleaners and DC progressed to take on CSK.

Now, Pant has a fair idea of how the pitch would behave, whereas Dhoni will need some time to adjust to it. Also, Dhoni could be batting at 5 or 6, as opposed to Pant batting at 4; something that tilts the balance in his favour.

Bowlers for CSK vs DC Dream 11

The Vizag track in the eliminator showed us why the average T20 score at the venue is just 140 odd. The ball griped, turned and caused all sorts of problems to the batsmen.

With that template in place, I would be baking on spinners to once again cause havoc and thus bring in the best spinners from both sides. Imran Tahir and Amit Mishra have been the mainstays of the spin bowling units of their respective bowling attacks.

Experience and highly skilled, this duo knows how to deceive the batsmen on a flat deck and thus can surely do it on that Vizag deck. Get him in for sure.

For the third bowling pick, I go in with Harbhajan Singh, who has been deployed by MS Dhoni everytime the opposition has a few left-handers in their top order and the pitch offers some assistance. And Bhajji hasn’t disappointed one bit. He has two man of the match performances to his name and could cause massive issues for Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Colin Munro.

Being a bowler friendly track, I go in with 4 bowlers for this game. While all my bases from a spin perspective are taken care of. With respect to general death bowling performance, I get in Ishant Sharma, who has been shouldering that responsibility for DC, especially after the departure of Kagiso Rabada. His knuckle ball has been extremely effective, with not a lot batsmen able to pick it up cleanly and take Ishant Sharma for runs. Get him in.

All-Rounders for CSK vs DC Dream 11

Spin bowling all-rounders are the way to go for this game. And who better than the duo of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja to do the job for our CSK vs DC Dream11 team.

Axar has silently been DC’s saviour with the ball this season, keeping things tight during the middle phase and always chipping in with a few wickets. With 213.5 Dream11 points to his name, his role, current form and the pitch, you shouldn’t quite leave him out.

Ravindra Jadeja was tipped to be the main bowler on that spinning track in Vizag(as confirmed by Fleming). On a track that offers spin, Jadeja becomes doubly effective because he has the one that goes on with the arm, with the batsmen playing for the turn. Trust the pitch report and get him in for sure.

Batsmen for CSK vs DC Dream 11

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer have been in brilliant form with the bat for DC all through the season, especially in the second half.

Dhawan played a nice hand in the eliminator win against SRH as well. Now, while Iyer failed in the previous game, his technique is good enough to play against quality spin and hence I feel he is one batsman that you absolutely need to have in your side on a spin friendly wicket.

Suresh Raina is a good player of spin and will be aided by the fact that all of the DC spinners would be spinning the ball into him. And with Rabada not being part of their lineup, he doesn’t really have to think about how he could be peppered with the short ball.

Prithvi Shaw or Faf du Plessis?

For the final batting pick, it is going to be a straight shootout between Prithvi Shaw and Faf du Plessis. I don’t talk about Watson here as I feel he would succumb to some quality spin bowling. Between du Plessis and Shaw, I get in du Plessis, if I want to hedge my bets and play a little safe, If I get in Prithvi, I would essentially have the entire DC top order and just Raina from CSK.

If you feel, it is better to sparse out your selections, go in for Faf, else go in with Shaw(there is no other logic to do this).
