Mitchell Santner’s unfortunate injury has ruled him out for nine months, which means that he will miss this year’s IPL season.

The Kiwi spin bowler has been fantastic for his national side over the last few years, and Santner was expected to shine brightly in the coming IPL season.
Unfortunately for him though, this injury spoils his and CSK’s plans, as the Chennai franchise will now have to look at some other options to replace the Kiwi star.

This is what Santner’s coach had to say about the spinner,
“He’s a popular guy in the changing room and he’s well respected for the work he puts in for the side.
“Mitchell is a key player in all three formats for us, so we’ll certainly miss him in the upcoming series.
“It’s important though that he gets this fixed and we have him back for what is a big next 18 months for us.”

Santner was picked up at his base price of Rs 50 Lakhs, which is why CSK need to buy a player who applied for the auction and comes under Rs 50 Lakhs.
This is what CSK CEO, K.S. Viswanathan, had to say
“We are aware of the situation. Santner’s replacement will be picked by the captain and the coach.”
The current available options are Pragyan Ojha, Iqbal Abdulla, J. Suchith and R. Sai Kishore, Ashton Agar, Tabraiz Shamsi, Varun Aaron, Jhye Richardson and Aiden Markram.
While Agar is a like-for-like replacement, CSK already have an off-spinner in Ravindra Jadeja in their ranks.
Markram would prove to be a left field, but shrewd signing by CSK. The Chennai franchise are lacking a dynamic opener at the top to support Murali Vijay.
At this stage of his career, Vijay is more of a steady player who will try and anchor the innings. While Markram may seem too similar a player to Vijay, one must not forget that Vijay and Micheal Hussey formed a brilliant opening combo during CSK’s glory years.
Clearly, there is a lot to think for CSK!
