Manchester United have taken a decision on David De Gea’s contract at the club, amidst speculations that the player might leave Old Trafford.

David De Gea has been one of the key players for Manchester United for many years.

The goalkeeper has won multiple ‘Player of the Year’ awards during his time at the club. However, Manchester United are yet to extend the contract for the Spaniard.

De Gea’s contract at the club expires next season. The club has also failed to agree on new deals for club’s other Spaniards, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera.

And now, according to Manchester Evening News (MEN), the club has taken the final decision on De Gea’s contract situation.

David De Gea’s contract:

MEN’s Manchester United correspondent Samuel Luckhurst has reported that the club will continue the talks over a contract extension beyond the summer transfer window.

It is likely that the Spaniard will not sign a new contract before the end of the season – which means that Manchester United will prolong the contractual discussions over the next season.

It has been reported that Manchester United’s campaign in the Champions League could be vital for De Gea to take a decision on his future.

This is the Spaniard’s only second Champions League quarterfinal appearance since joining Manchester United in 2011. His only other quarterfinal appearance in the competition with Manchester United came in 2013/14, when the side took on Bayern Munich.

With the top-4 race wide open now, after Solskjaer’s side conceded a stunning defeat to Wolves in the mid-week fixture, Manchester United would aim for a long run in the Champions League.

The side faces an acutely tough test in the quarterfinal, as Manchester United takes on Barcelona on April 10.

United are currently 6th in the Premier League. They’re two points behind both, Chelsea and Arsenal, and three behind Tottenham.
