Having squandered away an incredible chance to consolidate on a top 4 berth after being comprehensively made short work of by the Chennai Super Kings, Delhi know they need to get back on track against the Royals.
The 80-run defeat against the Super Kings was a tremendous bolt on Delhi’s chances of nailing down a top 4 berth and with the Indians winning, the Capitals need to emulate the same marauding form that has served them so well this season.
What the defeat to CSK did to Delhi though was serve as a stark reminder that they need to fill in the gaping holes in their squad ahead of crucial matches next week. Despite having had an unprecedented season, one that has seen them earn laurels across the spectrum, the side have been unable to field their best XI throughout the season.

When the Royals visit the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday, the match is a massive opportunity for Delhi to get their playing combination right one last time before the crunch encounters come calling.
DC Predicted Playing 11 vs RR
DC Top-order
Shaw has turned out to be a bitter disappointment for Delhi. Much like many of the young players in the Indian setup who had so much riding on them this season, he’s been underwhelming time and time again. The way he’s thrown his wicket away match after match has let the Delhi side down massively, seeing them falter in their quest to put on a platform for the middle-order.
Despite this, lack of options will see Shaw come out to open alongside Dhawan. The good news for Delhi is that Dhawan and Shreyas to follow in at number 3 are both in stable form. They’ve looked good while batting and the way they’ve played around to keep the runs coming for their side will bode well for the franchise.
DC Middle-order
The worst area of Delhi’s line-up, the persistent stubbornness of the team management to solidify it makes for a puzzling viewing. We’ve been left confounded by the way Colin Munro has on a regular basis been shut out by the Ponting, a coach who has drawn flak over the two years he’s been inducted by the Capitals.
This might just be the match for Munro to make a foray into the Delhi unit. He’ll follow up Rishabh Pant at number 5 with Colin Ingram at 6 and Morris at 7 all of a sudden transforming Delhi’s batting order into an extremely solid one that can be relied on to deliver the exemplary good.
DC Bowlers
Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada being recalled by Cricket South Africa to ensure his fitness for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is a massive setback for the hosts. The latest development means the side is without the purple cap holder, someone who with 25 wickets this year has proved to be an extremely useful for the outfit.
In Trent Boult, the Delhi side have more than an adept replacement to come right off the blocks with meticulous performances. He’ll spearhead Delhi’s pace battery for this encounter along with Ishant Sharma and Chris Morris.
The spin department will see Delhi retain the same faces from the last encounter with Amit Mishra and Jagadeesha completing the 5 bowlers for the side.
