Spanish champions Real Madrid are eyeing the Belgian winger Eden Hazard to snub a new contract at Stamford Bridge for a switch to Santiago Bernabeu. The midfielder is a long-term target for Zidane’s side, who finished as the winners in the last season.
However, things have changed this season as the side led by Zidane have struggled to make inroads in La Liga, with key player Cristiano Ronaldo having a terrible form.
Sky Sports’ Spanish reporter Guillem Balague has said that the club from Madrid is eyeing the Chelsea duo of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard this season.
Goalkeepers have been one concern for the Madrid side, which has continued on from the time skipper Iker Casillas left the side to join Porto.
Sky Sports’ Balague expresses his views on the Chelsea duo:
According to reports from Sky Sports, Hazard is yet to be offered a new contract at Chelsea, with his current contract expiring in the year 2020.
On the other hand, the Belgian goalkeeper Courtois too wants his future decided before this season ends, with his contract expiring next year.
He said: “Real Madrid need big names and they have lined up Courtois, they want Hazard.
“It’s becoming clearer in the minds of the directors of Real Madrid they need another striker, that Benzema has to be sold. He doesn’t even have the backing of the fans.” added the Spanish experts.
Will the Belgian duo make a move?
The Spanish club has always had the plan to get a Galactico in a year or so, or in a couple of years. Also, the form of the French striker Karim Benzema has been poor, which has Zidane worrying.
“I’m not sure he will be an immediate target. For them, Hazard and Courtois will be top targets in the summer,” he concluded.
It is, however, to be seen if the Belgian duo makes a move to the Spanish capital as fellow Premier league player Philippe Coutinho made a move across to Spain to join Madrid’s rivals FC Barcelona.
