So Spain have qualified for the next stage with consummate ease against Turkey and the defending champions look like the team to beat in this competition.

There were many doubts lingering over this Spanish squad. Could the likes of Nolito and Morata replace the quality of Torres and Villa ? Could Cesc replace the role of Xavi in mid field? Could anyone play the role of Xabi Alonso in this squad? So far all those questions have been answered.

Morata bagged a couple of goals either side of Nolito’s good finish as Spain strolled past Turkey in their second group game. Iniesta was once again sensational and Cesc and Silva had good games as well.

Looking further into the competition, Germany and Italy look like the biggest threats to Spain till now. France have the undeniable quality but they have not convinced anyone after their two games. England look promising but you feel they would crumble against top level opposition.

Morata looks like someone who could fill the boots of Fernando Torres. He might not have the sheer pace of Torres but his back to goal and link up play looks to be good. Nolito is playing in the role that David Villa perfected during his time. The ability to know when to cut in and when to stay out wide will be something Nolito will look to improve upon.

From Turkey’s point of view, Arda Turan looked out of sorts and ineffective throughout the match. Turkey will need their skipper to inspire them if they still need to qualify as the third team which now looks unlikely.

But Spain have the bit in between their teeth and look dangerous again. After their disastrous World Cup defense several question marks were raised against La Roja. But they seem to have found the answers in this Euros and will look to make it an unprecedented third Euro in a row.

Spain are purring again !
