Alex Albon finished a disappointing 13th in Q2 for the Hungarian Grand Prix. His Williams’ counterpart George Russell feels Alex Albon is being ‘made to look like an idiot’ by Red Bull.

Red Bull’s Thai driver Alex Albon has had an underwhelming season so far. He is 8th on the drivers standing, something he would not be too pleased with. It got worse at today’s qualifying at the Hungaroring.

After complaining of under-steer and lack of pace in practice, he ended up in a disastrous 13th place in qualifying. This happened after he came out in a lot of traffic in his final full lap in Q2. As he went out, he publicly rebuked Red Bull on radio, not hiding his irritation.

“Sorry guys, but I told you, I told you, not to put me in traffic!”

George Russell comes to Alex Albon’s defence

His friend George Russell is not pleased with what he is seeing, and has put the blame on Red Bull. Russell believes Albon is still a top racer, and is being made the fall guy by his employers.

“I mean, I’ve known Alex for the last, you know, 15 years, been in the same paddock as him. He’s one of the best drivers we all race, you know. Max (Verstappen), Charles (Leclerc), all will say Alex’s always been at the front in everything he’s done.”

“And I don’t know what the hell is going on.”

Russell is of the view that Red Bull need to introspect to figure what’s going wrong and sort it out for Albon. Russell is confident of Albon’s racing credentials as they both fought it out for the F2 championship in 2018.

“I feel really, really bad for him because he’s being made to look like an idiot and he’s absolutely not. He’s won in everything he’s done. So I don’t know what’s going on but they need to sort out for him.”

Red Bull Racing have looked off-color so far this weekend, with both Max and Albon struggling for pace and grip. If they are to take on the might of Mercedes tomorrow, they need to get their act right real quick.
