Carlos Alcaraz v Matteo Berrettini Wimbledon Action Forces Charles Leclerc to Break His Usual Regime

Charles Leclerc once again turned into a tennis fan as he attended the Wimbledon tournament along with his good friend Pierre Gasly. Both F1 drivers attended the Round of 16 match between Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini on July 10.

Prior to attending the match, Leclerc revealed how he is a massive tennis fan and how he was excited to see Alcaraz in action. Alcaraz has taken the entire tennis world by surprise as he has not only won a Grand Slam but also clinched the world number one ranking at the age of just 20.

During his interview, Leclerc also revealed that he enjoys playing tennis as well even though he is not that good. Hence, he took the opportunity to attend Wimbledon as he just competed in the British Grand Prix this past weekend.

Charles Leclerc reveals his “excitement” to see Carlos Alcaraz in action

While giving an interview to Wimbledon’s official Twitter handle, Charles Leclerc said, “I am really, really excited. I am going to see Carlos Alcaraz, who is an incredible player. I only saw him on TV until now. But first time I’ll be seeing him in real life play and I am looking forward to that against Berrettini“.

And it seems unlikely that Leclerc would have been disappointed as the match between the two was a thriller. Berrettini won the first set before Alcaraz won the next three to win the match in four sets. The Spaniard showcased his class as he went on to win the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. As a result of his win, Alcaraz will now face Holger Rune in the quarter-finals on July 12.

Coming back to Leclerc’s interview, after hailing Alcaraz, he went on to comment upon himself and how he enjoys playing tennis as well. However, he stated that his good friend Pierre Gasly is probably better than him at the sport. And it is pertinent to note that this is not the first time that Leclerc has witnessed some tennis action this year.

Leclerc previously attended the Monte Carlo Masters with Gasly

When Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly aren’t competing against each other on the track, it seems that they enjoy their tennis dates together. Earlier this year, the duo also attended the Monte Carlo Masters together.

During their visit, Leclerc and attended two different matches. First, they watched the men’s doubles final between the teams of Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek, and Sam Weissborn and Romain Arneodo. And then later in the day, they also watched the men’s singles final between Andrey Rublev and Holger Rune.

Considering that this is the second time that Leclerc and Gasly have attended a tennis match this year, it is very likely that they may attend more together later this year. When it comes to F1, the two will next be seen in action from July 21 to 23 for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
