Christian Horner Lists Two Drivers Who Had Determination Like Max Verstappen but Never Got To Ally With Red Bull Boss
Christian Horner has recently named two drivers with whom he wished to have worked with, and they are none other than Juan Pablo Montoya and Tom Kristensen. The Red Bull boss stated that the duo had a determination similar to Max Verstappen, and he so wished to work with them.
Horner has worked with multiple world champions in his long F1 career as a team principal. With a career that stretches over 18 years, he worked with the likes of Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.
Furthermore, to add to the list, he also worked with world-class drivers such as Mark Webber, David Coulthard, Sergio Perez, Daniel Ricciardo, etc., in Red Bull.
After working with so many drivers and then holding these two drivers as the benchmark to work with, it must be very special for someone like the Red Bull boss.
Horner opts for Montoya and Kristensen
The Red Bull honcho is a regular guest on podcasts or talk shows who comes out with interesting revelations. On one such occasion, he was called in the Extraordinary Tales With Seb Coe podcast, where he was asked about the two drivers he would have worked with.
Speaking about this, the 49-year-old said, “There are some – drivers – that I would have liked to see. I think Montoya was not at his best in Formula 1, but I think he was a very talented driver who should have achieved more.”
Following this, the Briton added, “There was a guy called Tom Kristensen, who enjoyed tremendous success in sports cars.” Notably, Christian Horner sees the same ruthlessness in these two drivers that he has seen in Vettel and in Verstappen.
Admittedly, he could have chosen so many drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, or Michael Schumacher, but he didn’t. Hence, the question always arises: why Montoya and Kristensen?
Montoya and Kristensen’s racing achievements
Apart from being two of the greatest racing car drivers on the planet, Montoya and Kristensen have something extra to offer, which is why they are regarded as very special drivers.
Montoya, the Colombian international, is the 1998 International Formula 3000 champion, 1999 CART FedEx champion, 2017 Race of Champions champion, and 2017 Tech SportsCar champion.
The 47-year-old also has the 1999 CART Rookie Award, the 2000 Indianapolis 500 Rookie Award, and the 2007 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie Award and is a seven-time F1 Grand Prix champion.
Regarding Kristensen, the Danish driver is an FIA World Endurance champion, American Le Mans Series champion, Japanese Formula Three champion, and German Formula Three champion.
