David Croft once referenced fan made video to appreciated Sebastian Vettel's partnership with his race engineer

David Croft is one of the most respected commentators in F1, if not worldwide. His unforgettable appearances on the race weekends with the mic have made him the fan-favourite. So much so that fans even call him Crofty as his nickname.

Apart from his dense voice, which gives a captivating experience to every fan whenever he says lights out, here we go, his impeccable knowledge is also his key strength. In short, he is the right man to lead a commentary box in F1.

If soccer has Peter Drury, then F1 has Crofty. Amidst all of this, Crofty even showed that his range of gathering F1 knowledge is too massive. In 2022, he referenced a fanmade video on Youtube to say something about Sebastian Vettel.

David Croft referenced a Youtube fanmade video

As the 2022 season went on, Vettel’s performances with Aston Martin started to improve. But nobody thought Crofty would reference a random video from YouTube to mention how excellent the relations between Vettel and his race engineer are.

In a 10-minute long video released by a Youtuber named Marcel Fischer, it was shown how Vettel, with his race engineer, Chris Cronin. In the video, Cronin keeps feeding the German driver essential data during the Monaco GP.

Eventually, all that communication became crucial in Vettel overcutting Lewis Hamilton and Pierre Gasly. Crofty remarks that the compilation is eight minutes long, but it’s worth watching.

Sebastian Vettel will never join F1 for the lights out; away we go!

The veteran commentator is hailed for his signature dialogue: Lights out away we go, followed by the excellent narration for all intensity until turn 1. He is the only one to give some deep racing insights too.

On the other hand, Vettel is a proven F1 geek. He has spelt out all the F1 champions in the history of F1 in one of the videos released by Formula 1’s official channel. No other driver on the grid even came close to him.

So, it would have been great if Vettel could have joined Crofty in the commentator box. However, the four-time world champion has no plans to do that. He says, ‘there are others who can do it better’.

But what harm is there in having a multiple-world champion gracing the commentary box here and then? At least fans would love to hear his anecdotes. His mere presence in F1 is enough for the fans.
