“Fernando Alonso is Getting Over the Top”: F1 Expert Claims Lance Stroll Flattery is ‘Too Much’ for Him to Bear
Fernando Alonso is in the honeymoon phase with his new teammate Lance Stroll as they appear to be a match made in heaven. The Spaniard keeps checking on the latter on his radio. And, in return, he is making wholesome headlines. In Azerbaijan, Alonso instructed his team to give Stroll the ‘braking methods’ he designed for himself. Then in Miami, he kept asking his race engineer about the Canadian race driver’s position on the grid.
But F1 expert Peter Windsor on his Youtube channel now has called it out as ‘over the top’ behavior by Alonso. Windsor states that for him, it’s not a sincere concern shown by the two-time world champion.
“Fernando [Alonso] is getting over the top. Fernando always comments about Lance appreciating,” said Windsor on his Youtube live. “Who’s Lance racing with? That was a great pass into turn 1. I mean that’s a bit over the top.”
Fernando Alonso is making ‘iffy’ comments
Windsor then adds that Alonso would remember Stroll recklessly making the former fly over in Austin. So the positive comments by the Spaniard seemed to be an ‘iffy’ for the F1 pundit.
Moreover, this is nothing new for Alonso. Even at Alpine, he had a great start to his relationship with Esteban Ocon, but everyone knows how it ended. Only one disagreement is needed between F1 teammates before their cordial relations fall like a house of cards.
But having bad relations with Stroll could come at a cost. Therefore, Alonso would have to look at his interests before he puts himself in a position to make scathing attacks on his new teammate.
The Strolls can deny Alonso his F1 resurgence
Lance Stroll’s father is Lawrence Stroll and also the owner of Aston Martin, who has deployed his son in the driver’s role wherever the Canadian billionaire has invested. Stroll Senior sees a talented race driver in his offspring and has invested millions in bringing him here.
So, if relations between Alonso and Stroll ever go beyond repair, it’s known who’ll be axed despite their stature. Aston Martin as a team is at a very interesting phase of its existence and genuinely can be a championship-contending side soon enough.
So, if Alonso doesn’t stick by his own interest and goes rogue against his teammate, his resurgence could be the price he would be forced to pay. And at the same time, there is no lack of drivers who can be protagonists in the championship fights, even if Lance isn’t good enough for that.
So, it’s rather Alonso who needs Aston Martin instead of the other way around. Meanwhile, Alonso is having a good time at Aston Martin as he is frequently picking podiums this year. But believing he will have the best teammate in Lance, nothing could be more wrong.
