"I’m confident we can beat Haas next year"- George Russell target to climb grid ladder with Williams

“I’m confident we can beat Haas next year,”- George Russell is confident that Williams in 2021 can manage to overtake Haas in the table.

George Russell is set to compete for Williams for the third successive season, but he is yet to score a point with them in any of the Grand Prix races.

But this year, Russell opines that his team should perform better than Haas and Alfa Romeo and can realistically overtake the former in 2021 table standings.

“I’m confident we can beat Haas next year,” said Russell, speaking in December with Motorsport week. “I think we’ll be on a par with Alfa Romeo but I’d like to think we can jump them as well if you look at the progress we’ve been making.

“We want to be scoring points next year, we’re not suddenly going to be in the midfield fight because of the regulation stability. But definitely, we have to be aiming to beat Haas and Alfa Romeo.”

A realistic objective by Russell, considering Haas newly hired duo is going to debut in Formula 1 this season, and Russell has now spent two years in the sport.

Need to forget Mercedes bonus at Sakhir

Russell believes that to focus with Williams, he has to forget the incredible one-off appearance with Mercedes in Sakhir, in place of Lewis Hamilton, with his best finish in 37 starts for Williams being 11th position.

“I think it’s continuing the form, continuing the positive attitude internally with the team and externally not getting frustrated with the poor performance here, and continue to try and push Williams further forward,” he said.

“Mercedes believe in me. They have given me the opportunity, they’ve always had my back, now it’s sort of my duty that I stay on the straight and narrow almost, and that I don’t… suddenly change over the course of next year.”
