Sebastian Vettel: Bernie Ecclestone has a message for Vettel amidst rumors of him joining Mercedes next season.
German champion racer Sebastian Vettel’s future in Formula 1 is up in the air, with speculation rife that they may well be his last year in the sport. The 2020 season offers a chance to Ferrari’s Vettel to prove that he still has his A-game on, and can continue racing with the top-tier teams. This, in spite of the fact that his form has been diminishing and teammate Charles Leclerc is the new star in the Italian team.
There have been no shortage of rumors on Vettel’s next move, after it was revealed that the 2020 season is going to be his last with Ferrari. He has revealed nothing from his end, but fans are already going gaga over a potential fantasy line-up at Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Vettel.

Now, former Formula 1 boss and business magnate Bernie Ecclestone has had a say on this ongoing saga. His advice to Vettel: Don’t think of joining Mercedes.
Bernie Ecclestone sends out clear message
“He shouldn’t dream of Mercedes. There Toto Wolff has the power. But why should Toto take a Vettel when he has the superstar of the scene with Lewis Hamilton?”
Ecclestone: “I have spoken a lot with Sebastian vettel and I think he really wants to drive for the Mercedes team. He wants to associate with Lewis Hamilton”.
“But as I think he should take a year off, it is better that he returns in 2022 with the new rules.” #F1 #Seb5 pic.twitter.com/8fRPQQXrPV

He might just be right with his suggestion. Lewis Hamilton is at the top of his game, and so is his Finnish partner Valtteri Bottas. The latter expressed confidence last week that Mercedes have assured him of a starting berth alongside Hamilton next season too, and he has no reasons to worry.
Sebastian Vettel has been a great champion in his own right, but he has had several fall outs with this teammates, including current teammate Charles Leclerc, and more famously, with former Red Bull partner Mark Webber. That intra-team rivalry has been well documented. Add to that the ego battles that could arise between Hamilton and Vettel, and one would come to the conclusion that this fantasy line-up at Mercedes would indeed just be that: A Fantasy.
