Carlos Sainz was a part of the annual charity soccer match in Monaco that involves a team of F1 drivers. Like every year, the best in F1 go up against some of the biggest stars in the Principality, in an event that draws eyeballs from all over the world. This year, however, Sainz suffered a major scare when he suffered what appeared to be a contusion on his leg.
When pictures of Sainz’s injury began circulating around social media, fans started getting worried. Ferrari, who are already in a difficult space at the moment, simply can’t afford to lose a drive due to injury. Especially if the injury occurred during a soccer match that has no connection to the sport whatsoever.

Sainz, however, cleared the air by addressing rumors about his injury on social media. The Spaniard took to his Instagram and Twitter accounts to let his fans know, that he is fine and ready to race. He insists that he wasn’t injured and that what happened was a result of a normal collision which is very common in football.
Carlos Sainz asks fans to “stop inventing”
Sainz ensured his fans that he didn’t injure himself during the soccer match in Monaco, which also involved his teammate and hometown hero Charles Leclerc. The Madrid-born driver enjoyed his time at the Stade Louis II, and is now ready to shift his focus on F1.
“What happened yesterday was simply a contact during the traditional charity football match, but it was not an injury,” the 28-year-old wrote. “I enjoyed playing football as I always do. And now I am really looking forward to the weekend.”

Sainz also put up a hashtag at the end of his Tweet. This was in reference to his famous “stop inventing” radio message with which he slammed his Ferrari strategists last year. Sainz doesn’t want the fans to spread rumors, which is why he put up the hashtag.
Sainz looking forward to bettering his P2 finish from last year
Last year, Sainz had a relatively quiet and uneventful Monaco GP at the front of the grid. The Ferrari driver qualified P2, which is where he also finished his race. His teammate Leclerc came out as the bigger loser, with a bogus strategy call dropping the Monegasque to P4 from pole.
Sainz will be hoping to get the best out of Ferrari’s one-lap pace this weekend in Monte Carlo. Ferrari as a whole, are hoping to leave the track with a strong points haul that helps them jump Mercedes and Aston Martin in the championship standings.
