"We are looking forward"– Mercedes shows optimism about upgrades for Silverstone

“We are looking forward”– Mercedes is optimistic about the upgrades and the fan support they will get at Silverstone next week.

Lewis Hamilton is having his biggest winless streak since 2016, and to stop Red Bull from going away with the title this year, Mercedes is now convinced to bring out some upgrades for the next race that is going to happen in Silverstone.

Mercedes’ trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin has shown some excitement for the upgrades and the support the English people are going to show for Hamilton.

“We are looking forward to Silverstone, we’ve got a good update coming there that’s quite exciting,” said Shovlin on Mercedes’ latest debrief video on YouTube.

“We are looking forward to the home crowd, there is obviously a lot of Lewis [Hamilton] fans that are going to be there, and it is also a track where our car has worked well.

“So, we’ve got a few days just to regroup, to analyse the results of those and turn around the cars and get them ready for the next race in that updated bodywork, but we are optimistic for a better weekend.”

Silverstone– The fortress

Shovlin also confessed that Austria’s Red Bull ring has rarely suited them, and amidst the tightest competition with Red Bull, they weren’t expecting much to take away.

“Well, it’s fair to say that Austria is a track that over the years, we have struggled at,” said Shovlin. “It’s a difficult circuit and one that doesn’t seem to suit our car and we are trying to understand those issues.”

But things seem different for them when it comes to Silverstone, the Brackley based team has relied on the track’s characteristics to bag six wins out of eight races in the turbo-hybrid era. The rest two were won by Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen each in 2018 and 2020 (&0th anniversary GP) respectively.

“Some of it is the layout and the high-speed nature but also the fantastic support he has there from the home crowd. So, we are looking forward to it, it’s still going to be a challenging race weekend.

“We’ve got the sprint format to contend with, but hopefully we can put on a better showing and take that fight to Red Bull.”
