The Northern League of Legends Champion, or NLC, has been announced by Riot Games for players in northern Europe. Additionally, this will introduce a new competitive schedule that will be followed for the region.
League of Legends will feature a new tournament structure called NLC for local markets like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and the UK/Ireland. This is strictly for the northern part of Europe, where players from this region can compete in lower-tier divisions.
Since this structure is newly updated, the player base has doubts surrounding it because it is not the same as before. We have compiled this article with all the information they need about the new MOBA competitive structure to assist with that.
Everything to learn about League of Legends NLC
As mentioned before, this league will be exclusive to five key market locations with their own national tournaments. The starting dates for sign-up for each region are as follows:
- Sweden and Norway: From July 18, 2023
- Finland and Denmark: From July 19, 2023
- UK and Ireland: From July 31, 2023
Every national league will have two seasons every year with seven divisions. The team slots and first split dates for each of the regions are as follows:
- Sweden League: 8-16 teams, starting August 20 and ending October 1, 2023.
- Norway League: 10-40 teams, beginning on August 20 and ending on October 29, 2023.
- Finland League: 8+ teams, starting August 31 and ending October 10, 2023.
- UK & Ireland League: 8 teams, starting September 18 and ending November 2, 2023.
- Denmark League: 10+ teams, beginning August 31 and ending October 10, 2023.
Who and from where can players participate?
To make a team for NLC, there must be at least three players from the sub-regions mentioned above. The other two players can join this league, but those two have to be a part of chosen regions for the tournament. If these criteria are not fulfilled, then the team won’t be allowed to participate in the contest.
Players can also compete against teams from other regions via LNC Regional Promotion Series (RPS). This will allow teams from various regions’ Division 1 and NLC Ladder to face off against each other.
The goal behind League of Legends NLC
The primary goal of the NLC is to create a safe and welcoming community for players with the same passion for competitive League of Legends. This will also allow fresh talents to show off their skills and, alongside other individuals, to be a part of professional esports in a welcoming manner. In the words of Will Attwood, Competitive Experience Manager at Riot Games:
Our aim is to give players towards the bottoms of the pyramids additional flexibility with timings for games, so that players can organise, play and compete on a schedule that works better for them
By making a local system, players can compete together and help get a larger community to participate. Like before, this new NLC system will have a Division 1, further allowing players to compete in EMEA Masters.
