Gini Wijnaldum underrated player in the league

Georginio Wijnaldum’s highlights shows why he is the underrated player in the league.

Before the kick start of the season, if anybody would have argued about the position Liverpool are in, most of them would have made fun. But, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are currently second, but a victory or a draw will take them above Manchester City in the league table with eleven games to go.

The likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane have been receiving plenty of praise from the pundits, but there is a man who has been doing the job consistently from the start of the campaign. Georginio Wijnaldum has been one of the standout players in the league and the Reds have looked untidy during his absence.

During the recent 4-3 victory against Crystal Palace at Anfield, the Reds did not have control of the game which exploited their defence. That game underlined the importance of the Dutch International who makes interceptions for fun and keeps the ball revolving around him in the middle of the park.

Wijnaldum has made 34 appearances this term, and official handle of Liverpool decided to make a compilation of his highlights this season.

Gini Wijnaldum’s contract runs until 2021 and the supporters have urged the club to hand over a new deal to their main midfield man.

His compatriot and Liverpool teammate Virgil Van Dijk responded to the tweet and highlighted his importance to the side. Both Van Dijk and Wijnaldum play for the same country and know about each other more than what the club would like to as well.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has backed up the statement and has said that Gini Wijnaldum will be the first name on the teamsheet.

“I’ve told a lot of people… we had one player Ray Kennedy, fans were forever complaining about him, but we knew how good he was, Wijnaldum is the same and he should be the first name on the team sheet.” he said.

“He possesses great knowledge and awareness of where he is on the pitch. He’s a properly gifted player in more ways than the silky skills of the guys up front.”

It has been a great campaign till date and Gini Wijnaldum will be hoping to carry the same form as Liverpool enter the final and crucial stages of the season.

The former Newcastle man is yet to win a trophy in England and he will be determined to land the Premier League when the season shuts down in May. Not only the domestic league, but the Reds are still in contention for the Champions League as they prepare to face Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 at Anfield on Tuesday.
