Maguire completed his medical over the weekend at United’s Carrington training base. United confirmed the signing in the afternoon. Brian Gunn, who works for his agency Triple S, sent a congratulatory tweet towards Maguire wherein he confirmed that the Centre back would sport the no.5 jersey. The number 5 shirt belonged to Marcus Rojo. However, the Argentine vacated the shirt after moving on to number 16.

Harry Maguire has signed a 6-year contract with United. There is also an option to extend the contract for a year. This means that United think of him as a long-term deal and will hope to get the most out of his services. Maguire, who may make his debut in the season opener against Chelsea, will also want to do United right for putting their trust in him.
Apart from Maguire, United have also signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James. Bissaka and James look like good prospects and may become the backbone of the team in the years to come. However, Maguire is expected to drastically improve United and immediately so. Fans will hope that he will come through. Maybe then, the no.5 shirt will hold reverence in the club when he decides to call it a day.
