WATCH: Barcelona’s Sergino Dest Scores Stellar Maiden Goal For USA Against Jamaica
The player unleashed a scorching strike to open his tally
Although USA still have a long and gruelling road to traverse before they can be considered as a daunting opposition on the global stage in the world of football, the club is certainly on the right path.
The introduction of MLS has been a blessing to the country with a slew of starlets being unearthed at a rapid rate. More importantly, these wonderkids have earned quick recognition as well with clubs like Chelsea, Juventus and Barcelona moving quick to snag these emerging names.
Dest Gets USA Tally Off
One such player is Barcelona’s fullback Sergino Dest. Becoming a mainstay of Barcelona’s backline off late, Dest has impressed with his astute awareness and positioning with the player clobbering attacks unfurled his way with a string of tackles and blocks.
And Dest showed that there’s more to his game then just defending. Featuring for USA in their FIFA friendly against Jamaica, Dest unleashed a worldclass strike to earn his first goal for his country.
Galloping on a fearless run, Dest rummaged his way past Jamaica’s defence before cutting inside and curling the ball inside the top right hand corner. It was a blistering strike, one which Jamaica’s shot stopper had little chance of stopping.

Dest spoke about the tie and his goal after his side’s clash.
“It’s really nice to play with this group. You know, we have a lot of talented players,” Dest said. “This group is like, really good. I think you saw it. Also, we had some good combinations with each other. And I think we have a nice future,” Dest said.
USA coach, Gregg Berhalter also echoed the same feelings as he spoke about his side’s contest.
“For us it’s a process that leads to, you know, these big events,” Berhalter said. “And, you know, it’s hard for me to say, ‘OK, now we’re there.’ And, you know, I don’t see it like that, to me, it’s a continuing process. To me, this is just a work in progress. I’m going to continue to work continue to develop the team and make improvements.”
USA will next be taking on Northern Ireland in another friendly encounter before embarking on their FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The country will also be vying to impress at this year’s Olympic games and Gold Cup.
